The Department of Languages aims at promoting linguistic education, as well as developing talents among students possessing high ability in Chinese and English. Within the department, there are 4 main subjects – Chinese, English, Chinese Literature, and Mandarin.

Introduction

 

English at G.T. (Ellen Yeung) College takes into account the research findings in psycholinguistics, English language education, and Second Language Acquisition (SLA). More specifically, the teaching system will consist of:

 

*  PEG integrated curriculum

*  Native speakers/ teachers with TESOL training

*  a whole language approach

*  an optimal learning environment through SLA principles

 

 

English Teaching at G.T. College

 

GT English is a student-centered, school-based curriculum developed by GT College which forms an integral part of a student's English learning experience. Each week, a student has three lessons of GT English conducted by Native English Teachers (NET) with special focus on English literature, reading, and writing. The intensive interaction between students and NETs is achieved through oral communication, listening, reading, writing tasks,  and games.

 

The NETs collaborate with local teachers at GT College. They present English in a most natural way and communicate with children in authentic situations. The local teachers, on the other hand, are more sympathetic to the difficulties of Chinese learners and help them to avoid common errors uncharacteristic of native speakers. All local teachers have attained benchmarking assessment and have extensive teaching experience. With the close collaboration of the two parties, our students gain a high level of English competence.

中國語文科的主要任務是要提高學生運用中文的能力,要學生掌握規範的書面語,初中注重培養說流利而得體的粵語和普通話,同時感受語言文字之美,培養語文學習的興趣,高中注重發展高層次思維能力和良好思維素質,得到審美、品德的培養和文化的薰陶,促進全人發展。

 

 

課程發展方案

 

初中:

*  提高閱讀興趣,拓寬閱讀面,增加閱讀量,積累知識和語言材料,拓展視野和胸襟。

*  配合語文科的要求,因應學生能力,編選多樣化的學習材料,靈活運用學習材料。

*  具創新,具創意,全面發展資優生的讀寫聽說語文能力。

*  培養審美能力和審美情趣,加強欣賞古詩詞和短文元素。

 

高中:

*  以新聞社評為校本評核寫作素材,

*  培養思維能力和素質,鼓勵獨立、批判性思考,發揮創意。

*  學習文化知識,培養對傳統文化的認識和反思。

*  協助學生應付公開考試,了解考試模式和技巧。

 

 

 

 

教學目標

 

使學生能正確、流利地朗讀字、詞、句及短文

能夠掌握會話技巧

*  聽、寫通過測試要達標

 

 

課程發展方案

 

課程分兩個學年六個學段進行,由淺入深、循序漸進提升學生們的普通話能力,使

    學生在輕鬆的環境下接受正規而有系統的訓練。課程還會通過參加朗誦比賽、課外

    活動、各種遊戲來增加學生的普通話學習興趣及技巧

課程包括:朗讀、會話、聆聽、拼音譯寫

定期設評估試,以幫助了解學生進度
